This page explains the site structure in relation to technical compliance guidelines. If you have been directed to this page automatically, please read the information below about our dynamic web pages.
The Historical Directories site consists of two different sections.
Static pages include our home page, information pages relating to the project, news pages and our comprehensive History Notes section.
|
Our static pages have been built to meet the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards for content markup (XHTML), and style markup (CSS).
Additionally, these pages are intended to match Conformance Level "Double-A" of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
The static pages can also be accessed via older graphical desktop browsers (such as Netscape 4.0 and lower, or Internet Explorer 4 and lower).
Dynamic pages link to the actual online directories and their Fact Files. You can access the dynamic pages via the Find by Location, Find by Decade or Find by Keywords options.

Alternative viewing with Adobe Acrobat Reader
You can also view each individual directory image in Portable Document Format (PDF). For this, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
PDF offers more detailed renderings of photographs, maps and sketches. It provides clearer print-outs too. Before printing from this site, however, you must be familiar with our legal statement.
To download the latest version of Acrobat Reader for free, visit the Adobe web site at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/main.html
