Home > How to use this site
One new feature on the Historical Directories site is the ability to search within an individual directory. See below for more details.
Search a directory
You can conduct searches within individual directories. Here's how:
- Open an individual directory by clicking on any Directory link in the Results List
- Enter your own term(s) in the search field at the top of the page and click on Search
- Now click on << Previous hit or Next hit >>. This will move you from one search result within the directory to another
- To begin a new search, enter new term(s) in the search box and click the Search button again
- If you wish to jump to a specific image number, you must move to browse mode. To do this, click on Browse Directory at the top of the image.
Note: if you conduct new searches within a single directory then click on ‘Back to results’, you will only see the current directory in the results list.
Our Technical FAQ's provide details about advanced retrieval methods relevant to this site. They are generally better alternatives to the Boolean Operators, AND, OR and NOT.
